Soft cotton cloth is printed using the oldest technique known for printing fabrics. A design is drawn on, or transferred to, prepared wooden blocks. Each design has a contrasting design that is printed with a second color. Block printing by hand is a slow process and the details are highly artistic and are unobtainable by any other method.
Hand Loomed Ikat
A unique form of textile making. Unlike block print or other hand dyeing techniques, Ikat is first woven or created and then dyed. each piece of yarn is dyed individually and then wrapped to the desired design before hand weaving the fabric. This lush fabric because of its hand dying, hand weaving and attention to detail is more expensive than a plain dyed cotton.
The art of Bandhani is a highly skilled process. The technique involves dyeing a fabric which is tied tightly with a thread at several points. The word “Bandhani” comes from the Hindi word “Bandhan” which means tying. Bandhani work is mostly done in the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat.
